GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan police announced on Saturday a significant enhancement of security protocols for Chinese nationals residing and working in the region.

This decision follows a high-level meeting aimed at reviewing protective measures for foreigners engaged in various development projects and business activities.

Chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan at the Central Police Office in Gilgit, the meeting brought together senior police officials, including DIG Headquarters, DIG Gilgit Range, and AIGs from Special Branch, Operations, and Development.

They assessed the current security arrangements for foreign nationals, particularly focusing on those involved in non-CPEC projects and private mining ventures.

The officials emphasized the need for stronger coordination and advanced notification for the movement of Chinese citizens, highlighting the importance of thorough verification and security checks at key entry points and check posts.

This initiative aims to bolster the safety of foreign workers, which is crucial for ongoing economic projects in the region.

Looking ahead, the police department plans to implement these enhanced security measures immediately, with ongoing assessments to ensure the safety of all foreign nationals in Gilgit-Baltistan. Further meetings are expected to refine these protocols and address any emerging security concerns.
