Facebook, Instagram Hit by Global Service Disruption

Dubai: Thousands of users experienced temporary disruptions across Meta platforms on Sunday after Facebook and Instagram suffered a brief outage that affected users in the UAE and several other countries.

The disruption began around midday, with many Facebook users reporting they were unable to access their accounts due to website, login and server connection issues. Instagram users also encountered problems navigating the app, refreshing their feeds and connecting to servers.

According to outage tracking platform Downdetector, reports of Facebook issues surged around 12 pm in the UAE, while Instagram complaints also spiked shortly afterward. Similar disruptions were reported globally, with thousands of users flagging problems on both platforms.

By mid-afternoon, most services had been restored and the number of reported incidents had dropped significantly, indicating that the outage had largely been resolved.

Downdetector noted that its figures are based on user-submitted reports, meaning the actual number of affected users may have been higher.

The latest disruption follows a similar incident last month, when many UAE users were unexpectedly logged out of their Meta accounts and were unable to sign back in for several hours.
