Dubai Mourns Sheikh Al Maktoum as Emirate Declares 10 Days

DUBAI: Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a prominent brother of the ruler of Dubai and a foundational figure across the emirate’s sports, business, and security sectors, passed away on Monday at the age of 76, according to the Dubai Media Office.
In a solemn tribute to the senior member of the ruling family, authorities across the emirate announced a 10-day official mourning period, ordering national flags to fly at half-mast.
Mourning his brother’s passing, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum shared an emotional statement on X, writing, “You are absent from our eyes but not from our prayers and hearts, O Ahmed.”
The late royal was widely recognized for his decades-long stewardship in advancing Dubai’s administrative landscape, contributing significantly to its modern economic and infrastructural development.
