Dar Affirms Cabinet’s Decision to Halt Reconciliation with PTI

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Tuesday that the federal cabinet has “rightly decided” to end the process of political reconciliation with the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
This declaration came during a Senate session following the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the Centre cited the provincial government’s “deliberate disengagement” from combating terrorism.
Dar’s remarks were made in the context of President Zardari’s recent proclamations of emergency and governor’s rule under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.
He emphasized that the cabinet’s decision reflects a necessary shift in the government’s approach towards the PTI, which has been a significant player in Pakistan’s political landscape.
The cessation of reconciliation efforts signals a potential escalation in political tensions, impacting not only the stability of the current government but also the broader political climate in Pakistan.
Citizens may face increased uncertainty as the government navigates its relationship with the opposition amidst ongoing security challenges.
Looking ahead, the government is expected to outline its strategy for addressing the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and may convene further discussions on the implications of the governor’s rule. Observers will be closely monitoring the developments as the political landscape continues to evolve.
