Quetta: Security forces have stepped up intelligence-based operations in several areas of Balochistan, killing at least nine militants and recovering weapons and other material from their alleged hideouts, according to security sources.

The operations were carried out in the mountainous areas of Ziarat and Harnai, as well as in Sorab, where security personnel targeted suspected militant hideouts on the basis of intelligence information.

Security sources said several militants were killed during the operations, while their hideouts were also destroyed. Arms and ammunition, including grenades and other materials used for militant activities, were recovered from the sites.

A separate operation in Sorab also resulted in the killing of a suspected militant, according to the sources.

Security personnel have launched clearance operations in the affected areas to search for possible remaining militants and secure the surrounding locations.

The latest operations come a day after security forces reported killing two militants and injuring three others in the Kali Zaik area of Balochistan.

One of those killed in the earlier operation was identified by security sources as Mushtaq Ahmed, alias Kohiyar. Weapons, magazines, hand grenades and explosives were reportedly recovered from his possession.

Authorities have not provided further details about the identities or affiliations of those killed in the latest operations.
