What’s Hiding in Baggage?

Islamabad: What may appear to be ordinary baggage can sometimes conceal illicit cargo. In a nationwide crackdown, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has arrested five suspected drug traffickers, including an Afghan national, and recovered 20.16 kilograms of narcotics worth more than Rs4.6 million during six operations.

As part of its international drug interdiction efforts, ANF officials recovered 2.83 kilograms of ice concealed in clothes inside the baggage of a passenger travelling to Jeddah at Islamabad International Airport.

In a separate operation at the same airport, another 2.42 kilograms of ice was recovered from clothes concealed in the baggage of a passenger bound for Jeddah.

Meanwhile, ANF personnel at a courier office in Karachi recovered 400 grams of ice concealed in a laptop bag inside a parcel destined for the United Kingdom.

Under its inter-provincial drug interdiction operations, ANF seized six kilograms of hashish concealed in five hot pots near Ravi Toll Plaza in Lahore. An Afghan national was arrested in connection with the recovery.

In another operation near Ghazi Ghat Toll Plaza, authorities recovered five kilograms of ice and 1.11 kilograms of weed from a truck and arrested a suspect.

Near Islamabad Toll Plaza, ANF officials also recovered 2.4 kilograms of hashish from the possession of another suspect.

Cases have been registered against the accused under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act (CNSA), 1997, and further investigations are underway.
