What Is the Condition of Quetta Acid Attack Survivor?

Quetta: Days after a shocking acid attack at Quetta’s Civil Hospital, there is encouraging news about the condition of Dr Mah Noor Nasir, the young doctor who was targeted in the assault. Doctors treating her in Karachi say her condition is now stable and out of danger, offering hope after an incident that sparked outrage across the country.
Following the attack, Dr Mah Noor was initially treated in Quetta before being shifted to a private hospital in Karachi via air ambulance for specialized care.
According to hospital sources, approximately 13 percent of her body suffered burns, while 7 to 8 percent sustained deeper injuries requiring intensive treatment.
One of the biggest concerns after the attack was the possibility of permanent damage to her eyesight.
However, medical assessments have brought some relief. Although doctors detected moderate corneal clouding in both eyes, her vision remains intact. Specialists say there is currently no threat to her eyesight or any vital organ.

A team of ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons is overseeing her treatment, which continues under strict medical supervision. Hospital officials describe her recovery as encouraging, though she still faces a lengthy healing process.
The attack took place at Civil Hospital Quetta, where a lift operator, identified by police as Humayun Shah, allegedly threw acid on Dr Mah Noor. CCTV footage reportedly captured the incident. Another individual was also injured while attempting to assist the doctor during the attack.
Police launched an operation to apprehend the suspect, who was later killed in an alleged encounter while attempting to flee. Authorities say weapons were recovered from his possession, and investigations into the incident continue.
Amid the tragedy, an act of courage has also drawn public attention. Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti announced a civil award for Abdul Razaq Tarakai, who rushed to help Dr. Mah Noor immediately after the attack. The chief minister praised his bravery and humanitarian spirit, saying his swift response played a crucial role in saving the doctor’s life.
While the road to recovery remains challenging, doctors remain optimistic about Dr. Mah Noor’s progress. The preservation of her eyesight and her improving condition have emerged as positive developments in a case that has highlighted both the dangers faced by healthcare workers and the importance of timely intervention during emergencies.
