What Happened During the North Waziristan Operation?

Rawalpindi: Security forces have intensified operations against militants in North Waziristan after an intelligence-based operation in the Razmak area resulted in the killing of five suspected militants, while an army officer leading the mission was martyred during the exchange of fire.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was carried out on August 1 following reports about the presence of militants in the area. Security forces conducted the operation based on intelligence information and successfully targeted the suspected militants.
The military’s media wing said Major Hafiz Ehsan Elahi, 34, from Mianwali district, was leading the troops during the operation and fought bravely before sacrificing his life in the line of duty.
ISPR stated that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants killed during the operation, adding that they were allegedly involved in attacks against security forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians.
Following the operation, security forces launched a clearance mission in the area to ensure that no remaining militants were present and to eliminate any possible threats.
The military said that counterterrorism operations would continue under the framework of the National Action Plan and the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative approved by the Federal Apex Committee.
The ISPR reiterated that security forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism and foreign-backed militant networks from the country, adding that sacrifices of security personnel strengthen the resolve to maintain peace and stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the successful operation and appreciated their professionalism. He also paid tribute to Major Hafiz Ehsan Elahi, saying the nation would continue to remember the sacrifices of its martyrs.
The prime minister said security forces have achieved significant progress in the fight against terrorism and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completely eliminating the threat from the country.
The latest operation comes as security forces continue intelligence-based missions in different parts of the country to counter militant activities and improve security along sensitive areas.
