What Went Wrong for Arshad Nadeem in Javelin Final?

Pakistan’s javelin throw star Arshad Nadeem faced an unexpected setback at the Commonwealth Games as the defending champion failed to secure a place among the top eight athletes in the final competition.

The Olympic gold medalist finished ninth among 12 competitors in Glasgow, ending his hopes of retaining the Commonwealth title he had previously won.

Arshad struggled to find his rhythm from the beginning of the event. His opening attempt was declared a foul, while his second throw reached 77.41 meters, which remained his best effort of the competition. In his final attempt, he managed a throw of 75.20 meters, but the distance was not enough to keep him in contention for the next stage.

Sri Lanka’s Romesh Tharanga delivered the standout performance of the event, securing the gold medal with an impressive throw of 89.75 meters.

India’s Neeraj Chopra also produced a strong performance, recording throws of 80.97 meters, 85.83 meters and 81.29 meters in his three attempts.

Other notable performances came from India’s Rohit Yadav, who recorded 81.56 meters, Grenada’s Anderson Peters with 81.41 meters, and England’s Ben East, who achieved 81.12 meters.

The result marked a disappointing outing for Arshad Nadeem, who entered the competition as the defending champion and one of the leading contenders for the title.

Despite the early exit, Arshad remains one of Pakistan’s most successful athletes, having brought historic success to the country with his Olympic gold medal achievement.
