HANOI: Vietnam has officially signed a free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which includes Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and trade relations.

The agreement was finalized on Tuesday during a virtual meeting between Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and EFTA representatives.

Minister Dien emphasized that the deal will significantly boost trade and investment flows between Vietnam and EFTA nations, facilitating access to European markets for Vietnamese goods.

This landmark agreement is expected to lower tariffs on a wide range of products, benefiting both Vietnamese exporters and EFTA countries.

It marks a strategic move for Vietnam to diversify its trade partnerships and strengthen its position in the global market, especially amid ongoing economic challenges.

Looking ahead, both parties plan to hold follow-up meetings to discuss the implementation of the agreement and explore further areas of collaboration, including sustainable development and innovation.
