UN Warns El Nino to Intensify in December, Impacting Global Climate

News Desk

GENEVA: The United Nations has announced that the El Nino weather phenomenon is expected to intensify significantly before reaching its peak in December, potentially becoming one of the strongest occurrences since 1950.

The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) highlighted in its monthly Global Seasonal Climate Update that El Nino will lead to above-average temperatures across much of the globe and alter rainfall patterns, which could increase the risks of droughts and floods in various regions.

This intensification of El Nino is concerning as it compounds the already severe effects of man-made climate change, posing challenges for agriculture, water supply, and disaster preparedness worldwide. The WMO’s predictions underscore the urgent need for countries to adapt to these changing climate conditions.

As the situation develops, governments and organizations are urged to prepare for the potential impacts of El Nino, including increased monitoring of weather patterns and implementing strategies to mitigate its adverse effects on vulnerable populations.
