Islamabad: Anti-polio efforts in Balochistan suffered a significant setback with the confirmation of the second case of polio reported in the province within the last 24 hours.

According to sources from the Balochistan Health Department, the latest case of polio was detected in a 4-year-old child in Chaman district.

This marks the first instance of polio reported from Chaman and the second case from Balochistan and Pakistan as a whole.

It’s worth mentioning that just yesterday, poliovirus was confirmed in a two-and-a-half-year-old child from Dera Bugti.

Prior to these recent cases, Balochistan had not reported any instances of polio in the last three years.

In response to this concerning development, the health department has announced plans to conduct a special anti-polio campaign in nine districts across the province.
