Opposition Demands Withdrawal of Emergency Rule in KP
News Desk
ISLAMABAD: A coalition of opposition parties convened on Tuesday to demand the immediate withdrawal of emergency and governor’s rule imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging respect for the democratic mandate of the province’s electorate.
The meeting, chaired by National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, condemned the recent actions taken by the government, including the removal of the elected provincial government and the detention of political leaders and activists. Participants emphasized the need to restore democratic processes and uphold the rights of the people.
This political turmoil raises significant concerns about governance and stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province that has faced numerous challenges in recent years.
The opposition’s strong stance reflects a broader discontent with the current political climate, potentially impacting future elections and public trust in governmental institutions.
Looking ahead, the opposition plans to escalate their protests and engage in further discussions to mobilize public support against the imposition of emergency rule.
They are also expected to hold additional meetings to strategize their next steps in restoring democratic governance in the province.
