Sultans Secure Thrilling Victory Over United in PSL 9 Clash

Islamabad: In the fifth match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9, Multan Sultans emerged victorious over Islamabad United by five wickets in what turned out to be an enthralling encounter.

Set a target of 145 runs by Islamabad United, the home team, Multan Sultans, achieved the required total in the final over of the match.

At the Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan Sultans won the toss and elected to field first, inviting Islamabad United to bat.

United’s batting lineup faced early troubles as wickets fell at regular intervals throughout their innings. Salman Ali Agha top-scored for Islamabad United with a valiant knock of 52 runs, while Jordan Cox contributed with 41 runs.

However, the rest of the United’s batting order struggled, with Colin Munro scoring 8 runs, Alex Hales 2 runs, Azam Khan 13 runs, Shadab Khan 11 runs, Naseem Shah 2 runs, Faheem Ashraf 1 run, and Imad Wasim, Timel Mills, and Obaid Shah failing to contribute any runs to the scoreboard.

For Multan Sultans, Abbas Afridi and Mohammad Ali were the standout bowlers, taking 3 wickets each, while Osama Mir claimed two wickets, and David Valley dismissed one player.

Chasing the target, Multan Sultans faced an early setback, losing their first wicket with only 6 runs on the board. However, a crucial partnership between captain Mohammad Rizwan and Reza Hendricks, worth 71 runs, put Sultans back in control of the match.

Mohammad Rizwan played a vital innings, scoring 43 runs, while Reza Hendricks provided stability with his knock of 58 runs before being dismissed towards the end of the innings.

Ultimately, Multan Sultans successfully chased down the target, securing a 5-wicket victory over Islamabad United in what was a gripping contest.

In the match, Islamabad United’s sharp bowling made the small target challenging for Multan Sultans.

Thanks to contributions from Iftikhar Ahmed, who remained unbeaten on 18, and David Valley, who scored 7 runs, the Multan Sultans managed to reach a total of 145 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. For Islamabad United, Naseem Shah took 2 wickets, while Imad Wasim, Timel Mills, and Shadab Khan claimed one wicket each.

The young fast bowler Muhammad Ali from Multan Sultans was declared the man of the match for his exceptional bowling performance.

Both teams made one change each for this match. Multan Sultans included Ollie Stone in the team, replacing Shahnawaz Dhamira, while Islamabad United rested Hyder Ali and included Jordan Coase in the playing eleven.

Muhammad Rizwan led the Sultans, with other players including David Mulatan, Reza Hendricks, Yasir Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, David Valli, Osama Mir, Abbas Afridi, Muhammad Ali, and Ollie Stone.

Under the leadership of Shadab Khan, Islamabad United fielded Alex Hales, Colin Munro, Salman Ali Agha, Azam Khan, Jordan Coase, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Naseem Shah, Obaid Shah, and Tymal Mills.

During the toss, Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan mentioned that one cannot control the outcome of the toss, indicating the unpredictability of the game.
