Bangladesh’s Hasan Sees World Championship Final Within Reach

DHAKA: Fast-rising pace bowler Hasan Mahmud expressed optimism on Monday that Bangladesh’s recent successes have made a place in the World Test Championship final a realistic aspiration for the team.
Bangladesh currently sits fourth in the World Test Championship standings, bolstered by a surprising nine-wicket victory over Australia in Darwin this past August.
This win has underscored the significant progress made by a team historically viewed as underachievers in Test cricket. “The momentum is coming towards us, definitely,” said the 26-year-old bowler, who played a pivotal role in the victory with figures of 6-55.
Hasan emphasized that the atmosphere surrounding the team has shifted, allowing Bangladesh to now aim for dominance in Test cricket.
“We haven’t dominated (in Test cricket). Now is the time,” he stated, highlighting the potential for the Darwin victory to serve as a catalyst for future achievements. Over the last two years, Bangladesh has won six out of 13 Tests, showcasing their growing prowess.
Looking ahead, Bangladesh has six Tests remaining in the current World Test Championship cycle, including home series against the West Indies and England, as well as a tour of South Africa.
“If we win four matches at home, why shouldn’t we play in the World Test Championship final? That’s the dream for Bangladesh,” Hasan concluded, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the championship.
