Rabada’s Fitness in Doubt as South Africa Prepares Against Australia
News Desk
DURBAN: South African pace bowler Kagiso Rabada is in contention to play in the first Test against Australia, starting Friday, but a final decision on his participation will be made at the last minute, according to batting coach Ashwell Prince.
Rabada, who suffered a hamstring injury during training in June, raised concerns about his availability for the series. However, he showcased his skills in a two-day intra-squad match held in Durban on Sunday and Monday, impressing coaches with his performance.
“He’ll continue to be involved in training over the next few days leading up to the match, but it’s fair to say that he’s obviously not going to be 100% straightaway,” Prince stated during a virtual press conference.
The 31-year-old Rabada, who has taken 340 Test wickets, is a crucial player for the South African team. Coach Shukri Conrad emphasized the importance of caution regarding Rabada’s fitness, stating, “We will give a decision as much time as humanly possible, but we also don’t want to take any chances.”
His presence could significantly impact the team’s performance against a formidable Australian side.
As the team prepares for the match, Rabada’s training will be closely monitored, and updates on his condition are expected throughout the week. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see if he can make a full recovery in time for the Test, which could set the tone for the series.
