Jannik Sinner to Miss Entire 2026 Season Due to Knee Injury
News Desk
ROME: World number one Jannik Sinner announces he will not compete again in 2026 as he continues to recover from a knee injury that has kept him sidelined since his victory at Wimbledon in July.
The Italian tennis star made the announcement on Tuesday, confirming that he has opted for an extended treatment plan.
Sinner, 25, has not played since defeating Alexander Zverev in the All England Club final on July 12. His absence has already seen him miss the North American hardcourt swing, including the US Open, and the ongoing tournaments in Asia.
He will also skip the European indoor hardcourt season and the ATP Finals in Turin, where he has been the reigning champion for the past two years.
“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee which means the 2026 season is officially over,” Sinner stated in a video posted on X.
He expressed his disappointment, noting, “The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions which this year is going to be way different.
But at the moment, I also need to think about my long-term career. So I’ll do everything possible to get back 100%.” Sinner’s team confirmed that he will follow a treatment regimen for inflammation in his knee.
This decision has significant implications for the tennis landscape, as Sinner has been a dominant force in the sport, and his absence will be felt in major tournaments.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this extended recovery impacts his future performance and career trajectory. The tennis community is rallying behind him, hoping for a swift and complete recovery.
Looking ahead, Sinner’s focus will be on rehabilitation and ensuring he returns to the court fully fit. His team is expected to provide updates on his recovery progress, and fans will be eager to see him back in action, potentially in 2027.
