Islamabad: It has come to light that the dirty water in Mirpur Khas city, located in the Sindh province, contains the poliovirus.

The Sindh Health Department reported that water samples collected from the Mirpur Khas drainage canal on April 2 were sent to the National Institute in Islamabad for analysis.

According to the Sindh Health Department, the sample was taken from a drainage canal known as Paran on the Ring Road, and it revealed the first positive detection of the poliovirus in the district this year.

Dr Jairam, the District Health Officer (DHO), mentioned that despite the district being deemed polio-free, environmental inspections related to polio continue.

He also noted that the strain of the virus found in the sewage of Mirpur Khas resembled the sample found in Karachi.
