Pakistan Reach Asian Games Semis After Rain Washout

Nisshin: Pakistan advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games after their quarter-final against Hong Kong was abandoned due to persistent rain without a ball being bowled.

The match at Nisshin was called off at the scheduled toss as incessant showers left the ground unplayable throughout the day.

Under the tournament’s playing conditions, Pakistan progressed to the last four as the higher-ranked team in the ICC rankings.

Pakistan, led by Sahibzada Farhan, had entered the quarter-finals directly as one of the four seeded teams alongside India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Hong Kong reached the knockout stage after finishing second in Group B, beating Malaysia by eight wickets before losing to Oman by 41 runs.

Pakistan will face the winner of the quarter-final between Bangladesh and Malaysia in the semi-final on Thursday, October 1, at Nisshin.

The washout denied Hong Kong a chance to face Pakistan for the third time in T20 cricket. Pakistan won their previous two encounters at the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2023 Asian Games.
