Pakistan Floods Leave Groom Mourning 24 Family Members

Buner: A young man in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Buner district returned home from Malaysia to prepare for his wedding, only to find his celebrations transformed into a devastating family tragedy after flash floods claimed the lives of 24 relatives.

Noor Muhammad, 25, had been working in Malaysia. Just two days before the disaster, he spoke with his mother over the phone, discussing preparations for what was meant to be one of the happiest occasions of his life.

It turned out to be their final conversation.

Within hours, powerful flash floods swept through Qadir Nagar village, destroying homes and washing away dozens of lives, including Noor Muhammad’s mother and 24 other family members.

When he reached his hometown, he found his 36-room ancestral house reduced to rubble.

“When I reached home, there was nothing left,” Noor Muhammad said. “There were only piles of debris and huge stones that had fallen from the mountains. The flood destroyed houses, markets and everything in its way.”

The house that was once filled with wedding preparations, family gatherings and celebrations was suddenly silent.

“The flood swept away everything, our homes, mothers, sisters, brothers, uncles, grandparents and children,” he said, struggling to describe the loss.

Buner has been among the worst-affected districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following days of heavy rains and flash floods. Entire villages have been damaged, infrastructure destroyed, and hundreds of families left grieving.

Local authorities said nearly 400 people have died in flood-related incidents in Buner, with a significant number of casualties reported from the area where Noor Muhammad’s family lived.

For Noor Muhammad, a journey home meant to begin a new chapter of life became a painful search through the ruins of his past. His story reflects the human cost behind the flood statistics, families losing generations, homes disappearing, and dreams being washed away within moments.
