Over 500 Cases of Missing Girls Pending in Punjab, IGP Informs Court

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rao Abdul Karim revealed on Wednesday that over 500 cases of missing girls are currently pending in Punjab, as he addressed the Lahore High Court during a hearing.

The court session was initiated by a petition from Faisalabad resident Sadia Hussain, who sought the recovery of her daughter. The IGP confirmed that Hussain’s daughter had been located, prompting Chief Justice Aalia Neelum to inquire about the overall status of missing girls in the province.

In response to the Chief Justice’s questions, IGP Karim disclosed the alarming number of unresolved cases. He assured the court that special committees have been established to address these sensitive issues.

However, Chief Justice Neelum expressed concern that police action often intensifies only after judicial intervention, citing a case where a girl missing for two years was found only after the court’s involvement.

The Chief Justice’s remarks highlight the urgent need for a more proactive approach from law enforcement in handling cases of missing children and women.

As the court continues to monitor these cases, it remains to be seen how the police will enhance their mechanisms to prevent such incidents in the future.
