Shafay Distances Himself from Brother’s Corruption Allegations
News Desk
LAHORE: Punjab Commerce and Investment Minister Shafay Hussain has distanced himself from his brother, Salik Hussain, who recently made corruption allegations against the provincial government led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
This development comes in the wake of Salik’s accusations, which have stirred controversy within the political landscape of Punjab.
In a statement to the media, Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari confirmed that Shafay’s public support for Chief Minister Nawaz has secured his position in the Punjab cabinet.
“Shafay Hussain has rejected Salik’s allegations,” she stated, emphasizing that there are no plans to remove him from his ministerial role despite the familial rift.
Salik’s claims have prompted Nawaz to issue a Rs5 billion defamation notice against him, demanding a retraction of his statements.
This situation highlights the ongoing tensions within the ruling party and raises questions about the stability of the Punjab government.
Shafay’s alignment with Maryam Nawaz may be seen as a strategic move to maintain his political standing, especially as the PML-Q holds only one ministerial position in the cabinet.
The implications of this family dispute could affect party dynamics and public perception in the lead-up to future elections.
As the political fallout continues, observers are keenly watching for any further developments, including potential legal actions stemming from the defamation notice.
The situation remains fluid, with both Shafay and Salik likely to face scrutiny from their constituents and party members alike.
