Massive Fire Claims 10 Lives at Beach Resort in Bangladesh

DHAKA: At least ten people, including six members of a single family, were killed after a devastating fire swept through a popular coastal beach resort in Bangladesh early Sunday morning, authorities confirmed.
The blaze broke out in the early hours when most guests were asleep, rapidly spreading across wooden structures and eco-cottages within the resort complex.
According to initial reports from the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, firefighters and emergency crews battled the flames for several hours before managing to contain the inferno.
Tragically, six members of one family succumbed to severe burns and smoke inhalation while trapped in their accommodations, while four other guests also lost their lives despite frantic rescue efforts by local volunteers and first responders.
The deadly disaster has sparked severe public outrage and renewed scrutiny regarding safety regulations, building codes, and emergency preparedness in Bangladesh’s rapidly growing tourism sector.
Experts highlight that many coastal resorts and recreational facilities operate with inadequate fire suppression systems, missing emergency exits, and poorly maintained electrical wiring, posing significant hazards during peak holiday seasons when thousands of domestic and international tourists visit the region.
In response to the tragedy, government officials announced the formation of a high-level investigative committee to determine the precise cause of the fire, with preliminary suspicions pointing toward an electrical short circuit or a liquefied petroleum gas cylinder explosion.
Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against the resort management if safety violations or negligence are uncovered during the probe, while safety audits across all neighboring coastal hospitality establishments have been ordered immediately.
