Kashmir Row: US reaffirms Unchanged Kashmir Policy

News Desk
WASHINGTON: The United States has assured Pakistan that its stance on the Kashmir dispute remains unchanged, emphasizing that the region is still regarded as a disputed territory that requires resolution between Pakistan and India, according to diplomatic sources.
This assurance comes in the wake of controversial comments made by US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, who referred to Jammu and Kashmir as an “important part of India” during his visit to Srinagar on August 19.
Following these remarks, Pakistani officials sought clarification from Washington regarding any potential shift in US policy.
US officials conveyed to their Pakistani counterparts that there has been “no change in our position,” reaffirming the longstanding US perspective on the Kashmir issue.
This clarification is crucial as it underscores the delicate balance the US maintains in its relations with both Pakistan and India, particularly in light of ongoing tensions in the region.
Looking ahead, diplomatic channels between Islamabad and Washington are expected to remain active, with both sides likely to engage in further discussions to ensure mutual understanding and cooperation on regional stability.
