Amir Jangoo Lead West Indies to Record Total

Guwahati: West Indies produced a stunning batting display against India on Wednesday, posting a record 405 for 7 in the second ODI in Guwahati, powered by centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo.
The imposing total left India needing 406 to win, 44 runs more than their previous highest successful ODI chase. West Indies also became the first team to score 400 or more in an ODI against India.
Campbell set the tone with a blistering 101 off 65 balls, including a 29-ball half-century, while Hope struck 104 and Jangoo produced an explosive 114 from just 77 deliveries.
The three centuries marked only the sixth time in ODI history that a team had produced three individual hundreds in the same innings.
Campbell was particularly aggressive during the powerplay, reaching his fifty in 29 balls and taking West Indies to 69 for 1 after the opening 10 overs. He continued attacking the Indian bowlers before cramps curtailed his innings.
Hope, meanwhile, provided stability after moving down the batting order. He survived two chances before reaching his century and moved to 20 ODI hundreds, surpassing the legendary Brian Lara for the most centuries by a West Indian batter.
Jangoo was equally impressive, combining controlled strokeplay with aggressive acceleration. He reached 114 from 77 balls and played a major role in keeping the run rate high through the middle overs.
West Indies added 76 runs in the final 10 overs despite the dismissals of Hope and Jangoo in the 41st and 43rd overs. Roston Chase helped maintain the momentum, while India struggled to contain the late surge.
India’s bowling attack was further weakened by injuries. Prasidh Krishna left the field after bowling only five overs, while Naman Dhir was also forced off after injuring himself during his seventh over.
Debutant Auqib Nabi endured a difficult introduction, conceding 84 runs without taking a wicket. After going for 61 in his first 5.5 overs, however, he managed to restrict the scoring during his final spell.
Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets for 65 runs, including the dismissals of Hope and Keemo Paul, and reached 200 ODI wickets, becoming the second-fastest Indian bowler to achieve the milestone.
India’s bowlers struggled to make an early breakthrough after Keacy Carty was dismissed in the fifth over following a superb catch by Dhir. Campbell then shifted gears dramatically, smashing 22 runs in an over from Krishna before attacking India’s spinners.
He hit Ravindra Jadeja for a six and later cleared extra cover against Kuldeep as West Indies built a commanding platform. Campbell eventually departed after scoring 101 of West Indies’ 147 runs at the time.
Hope then helped Jangoo settle, although both batters were given opportunities. Jangoo survived a difficult return chance to Kuldeep, while Virat Kohli missed a sharp opportunity at short midwicket.
Jangoo accelerated spectacularly between the 30th and 40th overs, scoring 49 runs from just 25 balls during the period without relying solely on power hitting.
West Indies briefly lost momentum when Sherfane Rutherford fell for a golden duck as three wickets came in three overs, but the damage had already been done.
With a record-breaking total of 405 for 7 on the board, India now face a formidable chase in what has become a remarkable second ODI.
