KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced on Tuesday that the major infrastructural work on Karachi’s vital University Road has been nearly completed.
The sweeping urban development project, aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion in the metropolis, enters its final phase following months of persistent gridlocks and civic disruptions that heavily impacted daily commuters.
Addressing a press briefing in Karachi, Minister Memon formally apologized to the general public for the profound hardships, prolonged delays, and commuting difficulties experienced during the extensive construction period.
He underscored that while large-scale infrastructural overhauls inevitably bring temporary distress, the long-term benefits of the redesigned corridor will streamline transit and foster smoother connectivity across densely populated eastern districts of the port city.
The completion of University Road is expected to significantly relieve vehicular pressure on adjacent arterial routes, facilitating smoother operations for public transport fleets, including the ongoing mass transit networks.
Urban planners have long highlighted the corridor as a critical economic artery connecting major educational institutions, residential enclaves, and commercial hubs, making its operationalization a milestone for municipal administration and urban mobility in the province.
Provincial authorities confirmed that final patch-work, lane markings, and pedestrian crossing installations are being expedited to ensure the corridor is fully opened for unrestricted public traffic within the coming days.
The transport department will closely monitor traffic flow patterns post-launch to address any emerging bottlenecks and ensure sustained relief for commuters.
