Islamabad Imposes Rs2M Fine for Damaging Safe CityCameras

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has formally approved the Islamabad Safe City Ordinance, introducing stringent legal measures and heavy financial penalties of up to Rs2 million for individuals involved in damaging surveillance infrastructure across the federal capital.
Under the newly enacted legislation, severe punitive actions will be taken against anyone found guilty of vandalizing Safe City cameras, communication networks, or related security installations.
The ordinance also targets individuals who incite, provoke, or abet such criminal acts, ensuring accountability extends beyond direct perpetrators to those encouraging the destruction of public property.
The law aims to safeguard critical security assets that form the backbone of Islamabad’s intelligence-led policing and counter-terrorism framework.
With rapid urban expansion, maintaining uninterrupted surveillance has become paramount for law enforcement agencies to curb street crime, monitor sensitive zones, and ensure the safety of diplomatic enclaves and civilian populations alike.
Capital administration and law enforcement authorities are expected to launch a public awareness campaign regarding the strict penalties under the new ordinance.
Relevant departments will also coordinate to enhance physical security around vital surveillance nodes to prevent potential acts of vandalism before they occur.
