Indian Air Force Achieves High-Altitude Landing in Ladakh
News Desk
NEW DELHI: The Indian Air Force (IAF) announced on Saturday that it has successfully landed a heavy-lift transport aircraft at the highest altitude ever recorded globally, in the remote region of Ladakh bordering China.
The IL-76MD, a four-engine Russian-origin turbofan military aircraft, known as Ganjraj, touched down at an airfield situated at 4,154 meters above sea level, near the sensitive frontier with China.
The IAF stated, “An Indian Air Force IL-76MD has scripted history with a successful landing at Nyoma, marking the highest-altitude landing ever achieved by the aircraft anywhere in the world.”
This milestone not only showcases the operational capabilities of the IAF but also underscores India’s strategic military presence in the region, which has been a point of contention with China.
The successful landing is expected to enhance logistical support for military operations in the challenging terrain of Ladakh, where temperatures can drop to minus 20°C.
Looking ahead, the IAF plans to conduct further operations in high-altitude areas, potentially increasing its readiness and response capabilities in the region.
This achievement may also lead to advancements in military logistics and air transport strategies in similar terrains.
