India Reach Asian Games Semi-Finals After Afghanistan Washout

Nisshin: India advanced to the semi-finals of the Asian Games men’s cricket tournament after their quarter-final against Afghanistan was abandoned due to persistent rain and a damp outfield.
The match in Nisshin was called off 16 minutes before the scheduled toss, with no play possible because of the wet conditions.
India progressed under the tournament’s playing conditions as the higher-seeded team, with seeding determined by the ICC T20I team rankings. Afghanistan were consequently eliminated from the competition.
India will face the winner of Tuesday’s quarter-final between Nepal and Sri Lanka in the second semi-final on Thursday.
Sri Lanka, one of the four teams seeded directly into the quarter-finals alongside India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, would also advance if their match against Nepal is washed out.
Earlier on Monday, Pakistan reached the semi-finals after their quarter-final against Hong Kong was similarly abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The washout marked another disappointing Asian Games exit for Afghanistan against India. At the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Afghanistan won the silver medal after their final against India was abandoned following 18.2 overs due to rain.
Sri Lanka, one of the four teams seeded directly into the quarter-finals alongside India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, would also advance if their match against Nepal is washed out.
