Health Deptt Employee Sentenced to 29 Years for Fake Degree

FAISALABAD: In a landmark ruling against white-collar crime, a special anti-corruption court in Faisalabad has sentenced a health department employee to 29 years in rigorous imprisonment after he was found guilty of securing government employment using a fraudulent academic degree.
According to court documents, the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) initiated an inquiry against the convict, identified as Aslam Anjum, way back in 2009 following persistent complaints regarding credentials verification.
Subsequent forensic audits and university record checks confirmed that the submitted degree was entirely fabricated to secure the public sector position and subsequent promotions.
The verdict highlights the persistent vulnerabilities within public sector hiring mechanisms, where forged documentation often bypasses initial scrutiny.
Legal experts note that while merit policies have tightened across Punjab, historical backlogs of unverified credentials continue to plague various administrative departments, prompting demands for comprehensive digital audits of all government personnel.
Following the pronouncement of the sentence, anti-corruption authorities have intensified efforts to trace any accomplices within the educational boards or department human resource cells who may have facilitated the verification process.
Further departmental inquiries are expected to expand to other districts to unearth similar bogus employment credentials.
