Govt Weighs Governor’s Raj in KP

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has finalized its legal and administrative framework to potentially impose Governor’s Raj or declare a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following a severe decline in the province’s law and order and administrative stability.

A high-level consultative meeting at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad today will formally review proposals to implement targeted emergency measures across at least twelve vulnerable districts, including regions belonging to former FATA.

According to official sources, the federal administration completed a comprehensive security and governance audit detailing heightened insurgent activity, administrative friction, and deteriorating law enforcement mechanisms.

Under the proposed framework, executive powers could be altered to streamline security operations and restore order in key frontier areas. Officials revealed that constitutional provisions under Articles 232 and 234 are being actively evaluated to provide a solid legal backing for any federal intervention.

The potential imposition of direct central oversight marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political standoff between the federal coalition and the provincial authorities in Peshawar.

Political analysts emphasize that temporary central administration in sensitive border districts could drastically alter security dynamics and governance protocols, though critics warn that such a dramatic move will likely draw severe legal challenges from opposition parties in the Supreme Court.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to preside over the crucial consultative session alongside senior cabinet ministers, legal advisors, and security heads.

The high-level meeting will decide whether to declare a full provincial state of emergency or restrict central interventions exclusively to the twelve designated conflict-prone districts.

A formal proposal from the Ministry of Interior is expected to be submitted to the President shortly after the session concludes.
