Govt Launches Military Operation to Retake Houthi-Controlled Areas
ADEN: Yemen’s leadership announced on Sunday the initiation of a new military operation aimed at reclaiming all territories currently held by the Houthis, despite the group making recent advances that have effectively encircled a key government-held city.
The declaration, made by Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s presidential council, comes after the government suffered significant territorial losses along the Red Sea coastline and around the strategically vital Bab al-Mandab strait due to a rapid offensive by Houthi forces.
Alimi urged all armed forces to commence their missions to restore state authority across the nation.
This military drive underscores the challenges facing Yemen’s government, which has struggled to counter the Houthi surge even with military backing from Saudi Arabia.
The Houthis have also claimed responsibility for attacks on oil infrastructure in the Saudi capital, further complicating the regional dynamics.
Looking ahead, the Yemeni government is expected to intensify military operations and seek additional support from international allies to bolster its efforts. The situation remains fluid, and developments in the coming days will be critical in determining the outcome of this renewed military campaign.
