ISLAMABAD: The federal government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs5.16 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs7.69 per litre, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division on Monday.
Under the revised rates, the price of petrol has been lowered from Rs386.30 to Rs381.14 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now cost Rs389.27 per litre, down from Rs396.96.
The revised prices will take effect from midnight on October 19 and apply on October 20, 2026, according to the notification.
The Petroleum Division said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) determined the revised prices in line with the pricing mechanism established by the federal government. The adjustments take into account fluctuations in international oil prices, Platts rates, premiums and other associated costs.
According to the notification, petroleum prices remain linked to trends in the international market, with the government adjusting rates in response to changes in global oil prices and related expenses.
Since July 17, petrol prices have been reduced 27 times and increased 36 times, while high-speed diesel prices have been cut 26 times and raised 36 times, the notification stated.
Last Friday, the government announced petroleum prices for a three-day period from October 17 to October 19. At the time, petrol prices were reduced by Rs3.93 per litre to Rs386.30, while the price of high-speed diesel remained unchanged at Rs396.96 per litre.
Amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the government has been determining petroleum prices daily, although rates remain unchanged on Saturdays and Sundays.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on September 13 a relief of Rs100 per litre on petrol for eligible users of motorcycles, rickshaws, chingchis and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc to ease the burden of persistently high fuel prices.
