Google rolls out AI voice features for Gmail, Docs

Islamabad: Google has rolled out new AI-powered voice features for Gmail, Docs and Keep, allowing users to interact with their emails, documents and notes through natural-language voice commands and dictation.

The features, details of which were first unveiled in May, have now been officially launched under the names Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live.

With Gmail Live, users can ask questions about their inbox using voice commands instead of manually typing queries into the search bar. The Gemini-powered AI assistant uses live transcription to understand users’ requests and respond accordingly.

Docs Live enables users to dictate what they want to create, after which the AI assistant can gather relevant information from Gmail, Google Drive, Chat and the web to help prepare an initial draft.

Meanwhile, Keep Live allows users to create notes without typing. Users can dictate their requirements, with the AI feature also capable of generating recipes, lists and other organised notes based on voice instructions.

Google said the new features are being introduced with different availability levels depending on the subscription plan. Gmail Live is available to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers, while Docs Live and Keep Live are available to Google AI Pro and Ultra users.

The features are initially being offered in English and are available on iOS and Android devices.

Google has also announced that the new AI-powered facilities will soon be rolled out to Workspace Business users, expanding access to voice-based productivity tools for professional users.
