Swat: A glacier incident in Swat’s Mataltan Valley has left one climber missing and three others injured while they were heading towards the base camp of Chota K2, rescue officials said.

According to the rescue team, seven climbers were caught in the glacier collapse in the Kalam area. Three climbers from Rawalpindi survived the incident but sustained injuries and were shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital for medical treatment.

Rescue officials said a medical team was dispatched immediately on the instructions of District Emergency Officer Syed Shoaib Mansoor. The injured climbers received first aid at the site before being transported to the hospital.

The search operation for the missing climber is currently underway. Officials said the rescue effort is facing challenges due to the remote location and difficult mountainous terrain.

Rescue teams confirmed that three climbers survived the accident, while mountaineer Syed Ali Shah from Khwaza Khela remains missing.

Authorities said further updates will be shared as the search operation progresses.

PDMA Issues GLOF Alert in Upper KP

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert for possible glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in several upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of increased risks due to rising temperatures and heavy rainfall.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, areas including Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat and Upper Kohistan are at heightened risk as rapid glacier melting could cause glacial lakes to overflow or burst suddenly.
