MUZAFFARABAD: At least four men lost their lives on Monday when a landmine exploded near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), as reported by the Directorate General of Public Relations (DGPR).
The DGPR stated that the victims were engaged in repairing a spring water pipeline in Hajira tehsil when the landmine, reportedly from the Indian side, detonated. All four men died instantly at the scene.
This incident underscores the ongoing dangers posed by unexploded ordnance in the region, particularly due to ambiguous border demarcations near the LoC. The DGPR highlighted that such floating landmines continue to threaten both civilians and livestock in the area.
In response to the tragedy, former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, condemning the planting of landmines by Indian forces as a violation of human rights and a direct threat to the lives of Kashmiris.
