SWAT: A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck the Swat region of Pakistan on Tuesday, causing tremors that were felt across various parts of the area.
The quake occurred at approximately 2:30 PM local time, with its epicenter located near the town of Mingora.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the earthquake’s depth was recorded at 10 kilometers.
Local authorities reported no immediate damage or casualties, but residents expressed concern as they evacuated buildings during the tremors.
“It was a sudden jolt that shook our homes; we are still in shock,” said a local resident.
This seismic event highlights the ongoing geological activity in the region, which is prone to earthquakes due to its location in the Himalayan seismic belt.
Experts warn that while this quake did not result in significant damage, it serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with living in such an active seismic zone.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged residents to remain vigilant.
The Pakistan Geological Survey is expected to conduct further assessments to determine any aftershocks or related seismic activity in the coming days.
