Fiscal Reforms Can Save Rs4 Trillion Annually:JI

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman asserted on Friday that the national exchequer could save between Rs3 trillion and Rs4 trillion if the government adopts the party’s comprehensive proposed fiscal reforms.
Addressing a crowded press conference in the federal capital, the JI chief criticized ongoing heavy taxation and soaring fuel costs, dismissing official relief packages as superficial measures that fail to alleviate the core economic burdens carried by ordinary citizens.
Rehman explicitly rejected the administration’s stance that recent domestic energy and fuel price hikes are solely driven by international market volatility.
He argued instead that authorities rely heavily on aggressive levies to meet strict revenue targets rather than implementing structural cuts to ballooning state expenditures. Pointing to regional comparisons, he noted that local petroleum prices escalated significantly faster during recent tensions than in neighboring nations, severely squeezing lower- and middle-income households.
The announcement of potential fiscal savings comes against a backdrop of escalating political friction and widespread public discontent over high inflation, electricity tariffs, and cost-of-living crises.
By presenting alternative economic frameworks, the religious-political party aims to consolidate growing anti-inflationary sentiment and position itself as a principal voice for economically distressed segments of the population across the country.
To ramp up pressure on the federal administration for immediate economic relief, Rehman formally announced that a nationwide ‘super long march’ toward Islamabad will commence on September 20. The upcoming protest movement is expected to test the government’s political resilience as opposition groups mobilize citizens around core demands for administrative austerity and reduced energy tariffs.
