Wanted suspect in girl’s murder held after 17 years

Sialkot: Police have arrested a wanted suspect accused of killing a girl in Sialkot after she refused to marry him, 17 years after the alleged crime.

According to Sabzpir police, the suspect, identified as Naeem Salamat, was wanted in connection with the murder, which took place in 2009. Police said the accused allegedly shot and killed the girl after she refused to marry him and subsequently went into hiding.

Police said the suspect changed his whereabouts repeatedly, moving between Karachi, Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to evade arrest. He allegedly also changed his identity and documents to avoid being traced.

According to police, the suspect was eventually tracked down with the help of modern technology and human intelligence and taken into custody.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway.

Meanwhile, the mystery surrounding the death of a 25-year-old woman whose body was found hanging in a flat in Islampura three days ago remains unresolved, while police have detained a suspect for questioning.

The deceased, identified as Arshma, was reportedly working as a beautician and living alone in the flat. Police said a crime scene unit and forensic experts examined the premises and collected evidence, with samples sent to a laboratory for analysis.

According to SP City Arshad Hayat Kanju, the investigation is underway and police are examining all possible aspects of the case, including the possibility of suicide.
