Goods Transporters Raise Fares by 5%

Islamabad: Goods transporters have announced a 5 percent increase in freight charges following a rise in petroleum product prices.

President of the Goods Transporters Association Malik Shahzad Awan strongly condemned the increase, describing the government’s decision to revise petroleum prices on a daily basis as unacceptable.

He called on the government to immediately withdraw the daily pricing mechanism, saying the repeated fuel price increases were placing an additional burden on the transport sector.

Awan said the nationwide strike by goods transporters had been postponed for 40 days following assurances from the government, but most of their demands had yet to be addressed.

He warned that if meaningful progress was not made on their demands within the agreed timeframe, goods transporters would resume their nationwide strike.
