UK Govt Urges Public to Stockpile Emergency Supplies

News Desk

LONDON: The British government has advised citizens to maintain three days’ worth of emergency supplies at home, a precaution underscored by a recent PHP software glitch and the ongoing challenges posed by extreme weather conditions.

In light of a significant cybersecurity incident that emerged this week, which saw flaws in the PHP programming language lead to widespread service disruptions and millions of hacking attempts, officials emphasized the necessity of preparedness. Prime Minister Andy Burnham, during a meeting focused on wildfire responses, stated that the UK has historically been reactive to emergencies and must adopt a more proactive stance.

This call to action comes as the government launches its “Be Ready” campaign, urging households to stockpile essential items such as bottled water and non-perishable food. The initiative aims to bolster public resilience against potential crises, particularly in the wake of record-setting heat, drought, and wildfires that have affected the nation.

Looking ahead, the government has announced a new wildfire response plan that includes deploying military aircraft to assist in firefighting efforts. Defence Secretary Wes Streeting highlighted the importance of addressing cyber threats as part of the broader strategy to enhance national security and emergency preparedness.
