Trump Pushes Saudi Arabia, Qatar Toward Abraham Accords

Washington: In a move that could significantly reshape Middle Eastern geopolitics, US President Donald Trump has linked any future agreement to end tensions with Iran to a broader expansion of the Abraham Accords, pushing for Muslim and Arab nations to formally join the US-backed regional framework.
Posting on his Truth Social platform on Monday, Trump said he had instructed his representatives to begin efforts to bring more countries into the Abraham Accords as part of a wider diplomatic settlement connected to ongoing negotiations involving Iran.
“Nothing in the past, or in the future, will surpass” the accords, Trump wrote, describing them as the foundation of a future “united, powerful and economically strong” Middle East.
The Abraham Accords, brokered during Trump’s first term, initially normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, before expanding to include Sudan, Morocco and later Kazakhstan.

Trump now appears to be positioning the accords not only as a normalization framework with Israel but as the basis for a broader regional security and economic bloc tied to any future settlement with Tehran.
According to reports first published by Axios, Trump specifically urged Saudi Arabia and Qatar to immediately join the agreements, saying other countries should follow.
“It may be possible that one or two have a reason for not doing so, and that will be accepted,” Trump said, “but most should be ready, willing and able.”
The proposal reportedly received a cautious response from regional leaders. Axios, citing a US official, said there was “silence on the line” when Trump raised the issue during conversations with Middle Eastern leaders, prompting him to jokingly ask whether they were still present.
Despite the muted reaction, Trump claimed that several leaders privately indicated they would welcome even Iran into the accords if a deal with Washington were finalized.
The remarks underscore Washington’s attempt to reshape regional diplomacy by linking normalization with Israel, economic integration, and security cooperation into a single geopolitical framework amid ongoing instability in the Middle East.

Analysts say Trump’s proposal reflects a broader US strategy aimed at containing regional conflict through economic alliances and diplomatic realignment, while also strengthening a pro-US bloc in the region against emerging geopolitical rivals.
However, the initiative could face resistance from countries that remain cautious about formal ties with Israel due to domestic political sensitivities and unresolved Palestinian issues.
Trump said he had tasked senior representatives, reportedly including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with expanding the accords and advancing negotiations tied to Iran.
The development signals a potentially major shift in regional diplomacy, where any future Iran agreement may increasingly become intertwined with a wider realignment of political, economic, and security relations across the Middle East.
