Islamabad: Pakistan is preparing to begin local SIM and smart card production in order to safeguard the country from the threat of cyber-attacks, generate employment opportunities, and conserve valuable foreign exchange in the midst of a developing cyber war; said an annual report of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

One of the main goals of the government is the digital transformation and the development of an enabling ecosystem, and in the age of digital services, SIMs and smart cards assume a crucial role. Due to the fact that millions of SIMs are now imported, local SIM manufacture will have a significant positive economic impact.

PTA gave its full assistance to the essential functions of completing authorization, compliance, and adoption of SIM card manufacturing, among other things, in the telecom sector. In many national economies, the local SIM and smart card manufacturing sector has already surpassed all others as the largest industry, and it is crucial to fostering long-term economic growth.

The claimed industry’s participation will not be limited to local engineering perspectives or technology transfer. From a business standpoint, it will strengthen the economy by generating tax revenue, expanding employment possibilities, and conserving priceless Forex. Additionally, it will give academia another useful perspective on research and development.
