Students Protest at Dow University Demanding Exam Reschedule
News Desk
KARACHI: Dozens of nursing students staged a sit-in protest outside the main gate of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on Wednesday, demanding the immediate rescheduling of their English Literature examination.
The protesting students blocked the entrance, disrupting administrative activities and calling on the university management to address their grievances regarding the examination schedule.
According to the demonstrators, the current scheduling of the English Literature paper has caused severe academic distress and logistical challenges for the nursing cohort, who claim they were not given adequate time to prepare.
The students have warned university authorities that if a new date for the retake or rescheduled exam is not announced immediately, they will expand their protest to block major arterial roads in Karachi, including the busy M.A. Jinnah Road, which could paralyze the city’s central traffic flow.
This demonstration highlights the growing friction between medical education administrators and students over examination policies, curriculum loads, and academic pressure in Pakistan.
Observers note that such protests not only disrupt the academic calendar of prestigious institutions like Dow University but also cause significant public inconvenience due to traffic blockages in Karachi’s high-density healthcare and educational zones, where several major hospitals are located.
While the university administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding the rescheduling of the paper, security personnel and local police have arrived at the scene to monitor the situation.
Negotiations between student representatives and the DUHS management are expected to take place later today to resolve the standoff, with students insisting they will not disperse until a formal notification is issued.
