SBP New Policy to Enhance Gender Financial Inclusion

News Desk

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has unveiled the second edition of its Banking on Equality (BoE) Policy, aimed at further reducing the gender gap in financial inclusion, which has already decreased from 39% in 2021 to 29% in 2025.

The initial BoE policy, launched in 2021, marked Pakistan’s first significant initiative to mainstream gender in the banking sector. The SBP emphasized that enhancing women’s participation in the financial sector is crucial for sustainable economic growth and aligns with its Vision 2028.

The central bank reported that over 17,500 women have been inducted into the banking workforce since the policy’s inception, increasing the proportion of female staff from 13% to 17%.

This initiative not only aims to empower women economically but also seeks to create a more inclusive financial environment.

The establishment of dedicated women’s financial services departments in banks has facilitated the development of products tailored to women’s needs, thereby promoting greater financial independence.

Looking ahead, the SBP plans to continue its efforts to further close the gender gap in financial inclusion, with expectations of additional initiatives and partnerships to enhance women’s access to financial services.
