Pump Owners Clarify Rules For PM Fuel Subsidy Scheme

LAHORE: The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) has announced that subsidized fuel under the Prime Minister’s relief initiative will strictly be allocated to vehicles that generate a valid system token, effectively barring unregistered motorists from accessing cheaper petrol across the country.
Representatives of the association clarified that the stringent requirement is designed to streamline fuel distribution and eliminate fraudulent claims at petrol pumps nationwide.
Under the newly enforced protocol, registered citizens participating in the Prime Minister Petrol Subsidy Scheme must present a verified digital token at filling stations to claim discounted rates.
Fuel station operators across major urban centers, including Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi, have been formally instructed not to entertain unverified vehicles or drivers lacking official token documentation.
The announcement comes amidst growing public demand for transparent mechanisms as the federal government attempts to cushion lower- and middle-income segments against elevated energy tariffs and broader economic pressures.
Targeted fuel subsidies remain a crucial fiscal tool for public relief, especially for two-wheeler commuters, daily-wage workers, and commercial rickshaw operators who bear the primary brunt of rising transportation costs.
Authorities emphasize that ensuring strictly monitored digital distribution is essential to prevent commercial exploitation and fiscal leakages.
Oil marketing companies and local administration officials are currently working alongside filling station managers to integrate real-time token verification systems at service bays to prevent long queues.
The association has urged citizens to complete their vehicle registration through designated official digital portals to avoid delays or refusal of service at pump counters. Further administrative guidelines and helpdesk details are expected to be issued by the Ministry of Energy in the coming days.
