PTI Claims Further Arrests of Imran Khan Sisters Amid Crackdown

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claimed on Monday that law enforcement agencies have detained more family members of former prime minister Imran Khan, including his two sisters Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, amid an escalating crackdown in Punjab.
The latest detentions follow the formal arrest of Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, who was placed under a 30-day detention order issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media platform X, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram alleged that Punjab Police detained both sisters alongside several family members and children.
Akram claimed the detained individuals were forced into an armored vehicle and transported to an undisclosed location, heightening political tensions across the province ahead of planned demonstrations.
The sweeping arrests come in direct response to the PTI’s announced nationwide protests and scheduled march toward Islamabad, slated for September 27.
The opposition party has framed the upcoming demonstrations as a critical mobilization effort to demand the immediate release of the incarcerated former premier and to advocate for the strict supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law against state overreach.
Political analysts warn that the intensified crackdown on opposition figures and family members threatens to further polarize the political landscape, potentially triggering broader civil unrest and confrontations between law enforcement and party workers. Further legal challenges and street mobilizations are expected as opposition leadership attempts to press forward with its protest schedule despite administrative hurdles.
