Police Fail to Recover Girl Abducted from Karachi Hospital

KARACHI: The Sindh Police have failed to recover a three-year-old girl, identified as Ayesha Usman, who was allegedly abducted from the Sindh Government Hospital in Liaquatabad more than 36 hours ago.
The incident, which occurred during broad daylight at a busy public healthcare facility, has sparked severe anxiety among citizens and raised serious questions regarding security protocols at state-run medical institutions.
According to the initial statement provided to the police by the victim’s grandmother, the toddler had accompanied her mother and grandmother to the hospital to obtain routine medicine.
While the family was occupied with the hospital’s administrative and medical procedures, the child mysteriously disappeared from the premises. Despite immediate reporting, law enforcement agencies have made no breakthrough in tracing the minor or identifying the perpetrators.
This alarming incident highlights the critical vulnerabilities in the security infrastructure of public hospitals across Karachi, where thousands of low-income families seek daily treatment.
The lack of functional CCTV cameras, inadequate security personnel, and unregulated entry and exit points at government facilities have increasingly made them soft targets for criminal networks involved in child trafficking and kidnapping.
Senior police officials stated that a specialized investigation team has been formed to probe the abduction. Investigators are currently scanning available private security footage from surrounding commercial areas and questioning hospital staff.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved family and local community members have demanded immediate action from the Sindh Chief Minister and the Inspector General of Police to ensure the safe recovery of the child.
