PESHAWAR: Authorities abruptly evacuated the Civil Secretariat in Peshawar on Friday, directing all administrative staff to immediately vacate their offices following a specific intelligence-based threat alert targeting the mosque located within the high-security complex.
According to senior secretariat officials, security measures around the sprawling provincial administrative hub had already been significantly heightened over the preceding three days.
The precautionary lockdown directly follows the devastating twin assault in Kohat, where an explosives-laden vehicle targeted a mosque near the old Police Lines, resulting in the martyrdom of 23 people, including 15 police personnel, and leaving over a hundred others wounded.
The swift decision to clear the government facility underscores the mounting vulnerability of key state installations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid an aggressive resurgence of militant violence.
Security planners are increasingly treating administrative complexes and law enforcement quarters as primary targets, prompting a severe re-evaluation of security protocols across provincial government offices.
Law enforcement and intelligence agencies are currently conducting comprehensive sweep operations and security audits within and around the secretariat premises.
Officials indicated that the complex will remain sealed for non-essential personnel until threat assessments are thoroughly reviewed and clearance is officially granted by security authorities.
