PESCO Suspends 150 Feeders Amid Severe Storms

PESHAWAR: Torrential rains and fierce windstorms lashed the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) region, disrupting the power transmission system and causing the temporary suspension of electricity supply across 150 feeders.
The severe weather system, which swept through several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, severely compromised local grid operations and left numerous neighborhoods in the dark as utility crews struggled to maintain uninterrupted service.
According to initial operational reports released by PESCO authorities, the high-velocity winds and heavy downpours triggered multiple technical faults, tripping high-tension lines and damaging auxiliary equipment.
Maintenance teams and emergency response units were immediately mobilized across the affected districts to assess infrastructure damage and begin restoration work. However, continuous rainfall and gusty conditions hampered repair efforts in several outlying areas, delaying the complete restoration of the grid.
The sudden power breakdown has severely disrupted daily life, commercial activities, and essential municipal services across the provincial capital and surrounding zones. Prolonged outages have also impacted water supply schemes, causing widespread frustration among residents who faced sweltering conditions and disrupted routines. Energy sector experts note that while seasonal pre-monsoon and monsoon weather routinely test utility preparedness, aging distribution infrastructure in urban and rural peripheries continues to leave the regional grid vulnerable to extreme meteorological events.
PESCO administration has assured consumers that emergency control rooms remain operational around the clock to monitor the situation and expedite restoration.
Officials stated that full electricity supply will be restored to all affected feeders as soon as weather conditions stabilize and safety clearances are issued by field engineers.
Meanwhile, consumers have been advised to exercise caution near downed power lines and report localized faults to designated complaint centers.
